Outfit Photo Poses
Six simple poses that show the whole outfit and feel natural in front of a camera, whether you shoot on a phone or with a friend.

1. Relaxed front-facing
Stand facing the camera with your feet about hip-width apart and your arms loose. This is the shot that shows the full outfit, so leave space above your head and below your shoes.
Tip: shift your weight to one leg so the stance does not look stiff.
2. Three-quarter turn
Turn your body about 45 degrees and keep your face toward the camera. Put one hand on your hip or in a pocket and lean slightly onto your back leg.
Tip: this angle shows the waist, layering and the side of a jacket or dress.
3. Walking toward the camera
Walk slowly toward the camera and let your arms swing. Take several frames and keep the one where your stride looks natural.
Tip: use burst mode on a phone. Movement shows how trousers, skirts and coats fall.
4. Seated
Sit upright on a simple stool, step or bench with your ankles crossed and hands resting on your knees. Angle your knees slightly away from the camera.
Tip: seated shots show how an outfit drapes and how long it is when you sit.
5. Give your hands a job
Adjust a sleeve, hold a jacket lapel, or rest a hand in a pocket. A small action keeps hands relaxed and draws attention to cuffs, rings or a watch.
Tip: keep bags and hands from covering the main piece of the outfit.
6. Over the shoulder
Turn away from the camera and look back over one shoulder. This is the frame for back details, collars and hair.
Tip: keep your face visible; a quick glance back looks more natural than a full turn.
